The case alleges that Trump, 77, had a sexual relationship with Stormy Daniels in 2006. Before the 2016 presidential election, $130,000 was paid to Daniels to keep the matter quiet. This payment was made by Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, but the transaction was concealed in business records. Trump has consistently denied these allegations.
The verdict comes just months before the upcoming U.S. presidential election, in which Trump aims to run again. Despite the ruling, it won’t hinder his election campaign.
Declaring his innocence, Trump called the case a disgrace and accused the judge of corruption. Speaking to reporters after leaving the courtroom, Trump stated the verdict was humiliating and claimed he did not receive a fair trial. He vowed to fight the decision to the very end.
